Abecedarians were the 16th-century German sect of Anabaptists who effected an absolute disdain for all mortal knowledge, contending that God would enlighten his elect interiorly & give the children cognition of necessary truths by visions and ecstasies (with which human being learning would interfere).

It rejected each more means of instruction, & claimed that to exist as redeemed of these must potentially become ignorant of the 1st letters of the alphabet; whence their title, The-B-C-darians. Nicholas Storch led this sect, preaching that the teaching of the Paraclete when completely that was necessary. Andreas Karlstadt even adopted these views, abandoned his title of Doctor and became the street porter.
